Intel’s Haswell-E Processors with up to 8 Cores!

The biggest processor supplier of PC announced its i7 High-end desktop processor code-named Haswell-E which is claimed to be the most powerful consumer CPU. This Core i7-5960X processor boasts 8 cores (16 processor threads), 20MB cache, 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes. It runs at a base clock frequency of 3.0GHz and goes up to 3.5GHz in turbo mode. This processor is the top-of-the-line which is priced at $999.

The other announcements were:

  • The Core i7-5930K with 6 cores (12 processor threads), 15MB cache, 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes clocked at 3.5GHz (up to 3.7GHz in turbo mode) and costs $583
  • The Core i7-5820K with 6 cores (12 processor threads), 15MB cache, 28 PCIw 3.0 lanes clocked at 3.3GHz (up to 3.6GHz in turbo mode) and costs $389.

All the processors are unlocked by-default. So, system builders and end-users can tweak in PC’s BIOS and make the CPU run at even higher clock speeds. These Haswell-E processors share up to 20MB of L3 cache and are the first consumer desktop CPUs that support DDR4/2133 memory providing 4 memory channels. They also mention that DDR4 RAM primary benefit will be low power consumption.

At connectivity points, Intel’s X99 chipset supports up to 6 USB 3.0 ports, 8 USB 2.0 ports, 8 PCIe lanes and 10 SATA 6Gbps ports. The targeted consumers of this kind of powerful processor are gamers, content creators and PC enthusiasts. Said so, Intel further claims that Core i7-5960K is up to
  • 20% faster for 4K video editing,
  • 32% faster for 3D-Graphics rendering and
  • 14% faster for game physics and AI processing.
